The Weekly Hill Update

Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

• The White House is on high alert, believing that Russia may invade Ukraine as soon as Wednesday.
• The Senate is expected to take up and pass a short-term government funding bill, with current appropriations set to expire this week.
• President Biden plans to travel to Ohio, continuing his nationwide tour touting his legislative agenda.

HOUSE

• The House is in a committee work week. The next floor votes are scheduled for the week of February 28.
• The Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee on Wednesday will hold an oversight hearing with Assistant Secretary Alan Davidson of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.
• Thursday, the Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy will hold a hearing on the International Monetary Fund.

SENATE

• The Senate must pass a House-approved stopgap government funding bill to avert a government shutdown Friday; senators will also vote on Robert Califf’s nomination to lead the Food and Drug Administration.
• The Senate Banking Committee tomorrow will vote on five nominations to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, including a second term for Fed Chair Jerome Powell.
• Thursday, the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on biosecurity preparedness.

WHITE HOUSE

• Biden is back in the White House today amid worries of an impending Russian attack on Ukraine.
• Tomorrow, the president will speak to the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference.

Thursday, Biden will travel to Cleveland and Lorain, Ohio, to discuss implementation of last year’s bipartisan infrastructure law.
