The Weekly Hill Update

Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

• The status of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran is uncertain following the U.S. seizure of an Iranian ship yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz.
• President Donald Trump will attend the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
• Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will appear in hearings in the House and Senate, as will various other cabinet officials.

HOUSE

• The House will hold floor votes tonight through Thursday.
• Kennedy will appear tomorrow before the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee.
• Wednesday, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will testify regarding the administration’s 2026 trade agenda before the Ways and Means Committee.

SENATE

• The Senate plans to vote on an extension of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act authorities, as Republicans try to resolve a legislative impasse over potential reforms.
• The Banking Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow on Kevin Warsh’s nomination to chair the Federal Reserve.
• Kennedy will testify Wednesday before both the Finance Committee and the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.

WHITE HOUSE

• White House officials were set to travel to Pakistan to resume negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, but the status of those talks is uncertain, as is the ceasefire that’s set to expire Wednesday.
• Tomorrow evening, Trump will participate in “America Reads the Bible,” organized by Christians Engaged.
• Saturday, he will attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
