The Weekly Hill Update

Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

• President Donald Trump will meet Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado following the U.S. ouster and capture of President Nicolas Maduro.
• The Trump administration late last week opened a criminal investigation against Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
• The Senate Banking Committee plans to vote on crypto market structure legislation.

HOUSE

• The House will be in session tonight through Thursday.
• The Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Research and Technology will hold a hearing Wednesday on the White House’s AI Action Plan with Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios.
• Also Wednesday, the Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee will hold an oversight hearing with the Federal Communications Commission.

SENATE

• The Senate will take up a House-passed package of fiscal year 2026 appropriations legislation.
• On Thursday, the Banking Committee plans to vote on landmark legislation to regulate cryptocurrency markets.
• Also Thursday, the Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on the impact of technology on kids.

WHITE HOUSE

• This afternoon, Trump will meet with Archbishop Paul Coakley, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and with Frank Siller, CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
• Tomorrow, Trump will travel to Michigan to speak to the Detroit Economic Club.
• The White House expects a visit from Machado, but has not yet announced details of the meeting.
