The House is scheduled to be in <a href="https://www.majorityleader.gov/schedule/weekly-schedule.htm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">session</a> tonight through Thursday, though leadership has <a href="https://punchbowl.news/archive/51925-am/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">threatened</a> to keep lawmakers in Washington until their <a href="https://rules.house.gov/bill/119/hr-ORH-one-big-beautiful-bill-act" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">One Big Beautiful Bill</a> is approved.

Officials testifying at budget hearings include Environmental Protection Agency Administrator <a href="https://energycommerce.house.gov/events/environment-subcommittee-the-fiscal-year-2026-environmental-protection-agency-budget" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lee Zeldin</a> and Chairman <a href="https://appropriations.house.gov/schedule/hearings/oversight-hearing-us-securities-and-exchange-commission" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Paul Atkins</a> of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will hold a <a href="https://energycommerce.house.gov/events/commerce-manufacturing-and-trade-subcommittee-ai-regulation-and-the-future-of-us-leadership" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> Wednesday on artificial intelligence regulation.

The Senate plans to take up <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/inside-congress/2025/05/19/the-gops-present-problems-00356566?nname=inside-congress&amp;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b4be0000&amp;nrid=00000155-8429-dc54-a5ff-b5ff85100000" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">landmark</a> cryptocurrency legislation.

A busy slate of budget hearings in the Senate includes <a href="https://www.epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/hearings?ID=B6CAC17A-76AF-479B-A4D9-6C59795405A1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zeldin</a>, Secretary of State <a href="https://www.foreign.senate.gov/hearings/review-of-the-fy26-state-department-budget-request" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marco Rubio</a>, and Health and Human Services Secretary <a href="https://www.appropriations.senate.gov/hearings/a-review-of-the-presidents-fiscal-year-2026-budget-request-for-the-department-of-health-and-human-services" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Robert Kennedy Jr</a>.

The Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will hold a <a href="https://www.help.senate.gov/hearings/the-state-of-higher-education-2025" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> Wednesday on the state of higher education.

Today, Trump <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-demanded-kyiv-pull-back-troops-before-ceasefire-ukrainian-source-says-2025-05-17/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">plans</a> to speak by phone with both Putin and Zelensky.

Wednesday, he will <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/south-africas-ramaphosa-and-trump-will-meet-next-week-after-white-south-africans-as-arrived-in-u-s-for-resettlement" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">host</a> South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House.

Saturday, he will <a href="https://www.timesunion.com/hudsonvalley/news/article/president-trump-commencement-speech-west-point-20291015.php" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">deliver</a> the commencement address at West Point.
