The Weekly Hill Update

Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

• Police Week brings events in Washington honoring law enforcement officers.
• During a busy week at the White House, President Joe Biden will honor law enforcement, recognize Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and commemorate the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case.

HOUSE

• The House will be in session tomorrow through Friday, focusing on legislation to support law enforcement, plus final passage of legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration.
• Ongoing budget hearings with administration officials include Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan, Federal Communications Commission Chair Jessica Rosenworcel, and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.
• The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday will hold a hearing on the federal response to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

SENATE

• The Senate is scheduled to be in session Tuesday through Friday.
• Administration witnesses testifying in the Senate include Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, and the top officials from the Export-Import Bank, U.S. International Development Finance Corp. and Millennium Challenge Corp.
• The Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday will hold a hearing on the future of arms control and deterrence.

WHITE HOUSE

• The president will recognize Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month tonight at the White House, and tomorrow will speak at the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies 30th Annual Awards Gala.
• Wednesday, he will speak at the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service at the Capitol.
• Biden on Thursday will meet with the plaintiffs from Brown v. Board of Education and their families, and on Friday will speak at an event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the decision at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
