The Weekly Hill Update

Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

• Congress returns for its last stretch of legislation before the year’s end, focusing on aid to Israel and Ukraine, border security, and the annual defense policy bill.
• The House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold an oversight hearing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), while Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Rohit Chopra will testify in both chambers.
• President Joe Biden will travel to Georgia and Colorado and participate in the National Christmas Tree Lighting.

HOUSE

• The House will be in session tomorrow through Friday, and may vote to expel Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.).
• Thursday, the Energy and Commerce Communications Subcommittee will hold an oversight hearing with the FCC.
• Also Thursday, the Science, Space, and Technology Committee will hold a hearing on the critical mineral supply chain.

SENATE

• The Senate will be in session throughout the week, continuing work on Biden’s judicial nominees.
• Wednesday, the Foreign Relations Committee will receive a closed briefing following Biden’s meeting with China’s Xi Jinping earlier this month in San Francisco.
• Thursday, the Senate Banking Committee will receive the semi-annual report of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Rohit Chopra, after Chopra testifies at the House Financial Services Committee Wednesday.

WHITE HOUSE

• Tomorrow, Biden will travel to Atlanta for a tribute service for former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
• Wednesday, the president will head to Colorado to tour a wind energy manufacturer and promote his “Bidenomics” agenda.
• Thursday, Biden will host President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço of Angola at the White House, and participate in the National Christmas Tree Lighting.
