The Weekly Hill Update

Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

• The Senate aims to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government, to force the House’s hand as current funding expires Saturday night.
• President Joe Biden will join a picket line with striking auto workers in Michigan tomorrow.
• Later in the week, Biden will travel to the West Coast for campaign events and a tribute to the late Sen. John McCain.

HOUSE

• The House will be in session tomorrow through Friday as majority Republicans struggle to find a path forward on any appropriations legislation.
• The House Science, Space, and Technology Committee on Wednesday will hold an oversight hearing with Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan.
• Also Wednesday, the Financial Services Committee will hold an oversight hearing with Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler.

SENATE

• The Senate will be in session tomorrow through Friday, potentially taking up a continuing funding resolution attempting to avert a government shutdown this weekend.
• The Senate Agriculture Committee on Wednesday will hold a hearing on foreign ownership in U.S. agriculture.
• Thursday, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on promoting domestic mining and international trade of critical minerals to counter China’s control of mineral supply chains.

WHITE HOUSE

• Tomorrow, the president will travel to Michigan to join a picket line with the United Auto Workers during their nationwide strike.
• Later tomorrow, Biden will travel to San Francisco for campaign events and a Wednesday meeting with his Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Thursday, Biden will visit Phoenix to honor the late Sen. John McCain and deliver a speech on democracy.
