The Weekly Hill Update

Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

• The Senate is expected to vote to strike down the District of Columbia’s controversial new criminal code, sending the resolution to President Biden, who has indicated he will sign it.
• The White House will release the president’s annual budget Thursday.
• The congressional hearing schedule is extremely busy, including an appearance by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and two by Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell.

HOUSE

• The House is in session tomorrow through Friday, with an agenda including a resolution targeting the Biden administration’s “Waters of the United States” rule.
• The Financial Services Committee has a busy week planned, including receiving Powell’s Semi-Annual Monetary Policy Report.
• Yellen will appear Friday at a Ways and Means Committee hearing on the president’s budget.

SENATE

• The Senate will resume votes on President Biden’s judicial nominees, before turning to the D.C. crime resolution Wednesday.
• The Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee on Wednesday will hold an oversight hearing with Rostin Behnam, chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
• Also Wednesday, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will vote on issuing a subpoena for Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.

WHITE HOUSE

• Today, the president will speak at the International Association of Firefighters Legislative Conference.
• Thursday, the White House will release the budget.
• Biden will host President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission at the White House on Friday.
